Relationships with Women as Objects, and Objects as Women
"God-Damned car!" Bill slammed the car into first gear and pulled over onto the shoulder of the freeway.
The car sputtered, made a series of clunking noises followed by loud hissing, wheezing and finally its death was complete.
Bill screamed at the dashboard as if the deceased vehicle could hear him. Or respond for that matter.
"You fucking piece of shit bastard mutha fucking asshole cocksucking son of a bitch..."
Bill sputtered his words, spraying the windshield with his dirty worded saliva, it somewhat resembled the car sputtering just before its demise.
When he finally composed himself Bill opened the car door, then walked to the front of the car.
He had absolutely no mechanical skills whatsoever, as a matter of fact, if he had, he would have realised that a car needed more than gas or oil to keep it running smoothly.
Bill was clueless. But he loved his Alfa, and treated it like a woman, a long dark curvy, voluptuous Italian woman.
He stood in front of the dead steaming automobile and stared at it.
A passer by might have seen this man standing before his auto and imagined him contemplating how he would repair the broken car, another might imagine a man standing in front of his car speaking to a person inside it, pleading with them for forgiveness.
In reality, this is what transpired...
"Look Silvia, I know we had our differences." Bill put his hand on the hood and gently massaged it.
"Ive said things..." He paused a moment.
"Things that might have hurt you severely, and for that I am truly sorry." Bill looked down at her, tears welling in his eyes now.
"Look Silvia, I know Ive not treated you well for a few years now, and if you give me another chance, I promise Ill change." Bills words were sincere, he stood in front of his 1979 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce and pleaded again.
"If you just give me one more chance Ill take you to your favorite mechanic and Ill have him redo the entire top end. Please Silvia, PLEASSSSSE! He begged.
Cars passed at 75 miles per hour cut through the steam that billowed across the freeway from Silvia's engine.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, cars passed faster and faster. Bill stood there wondering what to do next. It was apparent that Silvia would not cooperate.
He reached inside the car and pulled out his briefcase.
"Ok Silvia, I guess Ill just leave you here. No point in doing anything since you're dead." He took one last look at his Italian sports car and began to walk towards the next freeway exit. He imagined if she thought he would really leave her, she may change her mind.
He walked 50 yards holding back the desire to turn around and look at her. He would make her take him back!
"Shit." He stopped dead in his tracks. He patted his jacket, then his pants pockets.
"Damn it! I'm going to look like a fool!"
Bill stood there, frozen.
"Fuck. I left the keys in her!" He turned back slowly. She sat there, the light was hitting her just right. She was marvelous to look at!
He began running back to her.
As he ran, he recalled long drives on Highway 1 with the top down, the wind blowing in his hair. The long hot sunny days when he drove up the coast, speeding the curvy long windy roads, feeling like there was no one else in the world but him and Silvia.
He opened the door, and sat inside, he reached to pull the keys out, and paused.
"Ok, if you start, things will be different. I promise." He closed his eyes and turned the key, Silvia's engine made a healthy deep Italian sports car rumbling Vrooom!
"Fuck! Damn! It'll all be different. You'll see!!!" He patted the dashboard lovingly.
Silvia motored the 30 miles home. Handling like she was brand new.
Bill put Silvia in the driveway, washed and waxed her. Paying special attention to the smallest of details.
When he was done, he turned her around so she was facing the street.
He stood back and admired her.
"Damn, you are beautiful!"
He went inside the garage for a moment, when he came back out, he put a sign on the windshield. As he walked inside the house, he turned and took one last look.
